What is tin, tinplate and tin box? Tin is an element, tinplate is metal sheet, tin box is metal box made of tinplate. Below are more details.
What is Tin？
Tin is a metal element; its symbol is Sn. Its is one of the earliest found and used elements in history. It does not exist in pure organic substance, but inside natural stones. China and Indonesia cover over 52% of world’s tin storage.
Tin is one of the hardware. Tin is inert and does not react with air and water. It is shiny, non-toxic, and not easy to change color. It has good sterilization, purification, and fresh-keeping effects.
Tin is a soft metal with low melting point and strong plasticity. Especially at 100 ℃, it has very good expansibility and can be developed into very thin tin foil. Usually, people use tin foil to pack cigarettes and candy to prevent moisture. It is often used in food preservation and anti-corrosion film for the inner layer of cans.
What is Tinplate?
Tinplate, also known as tinned iron, is the common name of tinplate steel sheet, abbreviated as SPTE, which refers to cold-rolled low-carbon steel sheet or strip coated with pure tin on both sides. Tin is mainly used to prevent corrosion and rust. It combines the strength and formability of steel with the corrosion resistance, solderability and beautiful appearance of tin in one material, and has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, non-toxic, high strength and good ductility.
Because of its good sealing, preservation, lightproof, firmness and unique metal decoration charm, tinplate packaging has a wide range of coverage in the packaging container industry.
Because of its strong oxidation resistance, various styles and exquisite printing, tinplate packaging containers are popular with customers, and are widely used in food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, daily necessities packaging, industrial products packaging, etc.
The regular thickness of tinplate sheets is between 0.18mm to 0.35mm, which can be applied onto large printing machines. The most common used tinplate is with 0.23mm thickness for regular sized tin box, which can be solid enough. For large sized ones, it is suggested to use 0.25mm or 0.28mm thickness.
What is Tin Box?
Tin box is metal box made of tinplate sheet. Tinplate sheet is soft and easy to form into shape. Mold is the tool to form tin boxes. Different tin boxes need different molds. Molds are to be set up onto punching machines, and handled by automatic line or labor.
Tinplate rolls are to be cutted into flat sheets, and flat tinplate sheets can be coated with clear or gold lacquer or printed with custom designs or colors. Then tin boxes can be shiny or fancy decorated.
Tin box is becoming one key role in metal packaging, its production is becoming more efficient and cost-effective.
